problem with cells
hope someone can help...
i use and excel spreadsheet to track the names of employees for my company, which each tab representing a different department. i have two colums, A for last name and B for first name. i've noticed sometimes that if i change a name (spelling correction for example), the change will carry over to the corresponding cell on some of the other sheets... changing that persons name incorrectly! i don't know this happens until i click over to the other sheet and hopefully notice any errors... since i'm familiar with the names, i can see that the first name and last name do not belong together. it makes my spreadsheet inaccurateto share with anyone who is not as familar with the names as i am! has anyone ever run into this problem? is it something that i am doing wrong? please help! |

If you look at your screen --- do you see the work [Group] anywhere in the top
bar where the file name is? If so, if you right click on any of your tabs you may have the option to Ungroup sheets -- if so, click on it What has happened is that you have selected multiple tabs at one time. This is a feature of Excel that allows one to change data on multiple sheets in the same cell without having to rekey it over "KLP" wrote in message ... : hope someone can help... : : i use and excel spreadsheet to track the names of employees for my company, : which each tab representing a different department. : : i have two colums, A for last name and B for first name. : : i've noticed sometimes that if i change a name (spelling correction for : example), : the change will carry over to the corresponding cell on some of the other : sheets... changing that persons name incorrectly! : : i don't know this happens until i click over to the other sheet and : hopefully notice any errors... since i'm familiar with the names, i can see : that the first name and last name do not belong together. : : it makes my spreadsheet inaccurateto share with anyone who is not as familar : with the names as i am! : : has anyone ever run into this problem? : is it something that i am doing wrong? : : please help! |
THANK YOU
i think what was happening... i was selecting all the tabs in order to do a "find" and locate the employee i needed to change.. then i wasn't ungrouping before making the change. i didn't realize that leaving them grouped would change all the data!
