Do I have a worm?

Hello,

I have an Excel spreadsheet with much VBA code in it that takes about 25
minutes to open. It has about 10 worksheets. Most are fairly empty. One
holds about 20,000 rows of data (8 colums of data per row).

My machine seems to just hang and do nothing for 25 minutes while it opens.
I can do other things on it during this time like type this post.

I pay for Norton Antivirus and it is up to date. It finds no viruses.

I run an up to date version of Norton Firewall.

My free version of Spysweeper finds no bad files.

My free version of AdAware found 4 bad files that I quarantined. This made
no difference with my problem.

Does anyone know how else I can find out if I have a worm?

I have installed Service Pack 2 and think this problem was happening even
before the install.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Jim,

Visit Debra Dalgleish's file size/ used range web page at:

http://www.contextures.com/xlfaqApp.html#Unused

If your workbook contains macros, download Rob Bovey's CodeCleaner add-in,
freely downloadable at:

http://www.appspro.com/Utilities/CodeCleaner.htm

Additionally, visit Chip Pearsons web site and read his Start Up problems
page at:

Hi

Try to open the workbook withhout Norton Antivirus activated in your comp. I
had an experience like yours a couple of years ago, where the workbook (with
ODBC queries + formulas in adjacent columns), which in my workbook needed
less than a minute to open, needed in another computer nearly a hour for it.
Checking with Iarsin's Task Manager revealed, that for every row in query
results table, NAV made a full scan of source tables!!!
