![]() For some reason when i try to get an average for a particular column in my sheet, it will only give me a #DIV/0 error. However, there are no zeros in the column, and none of the cells in the column are linked anywhere else that i can see. I've tried tracing precendents and have found none. I did notice that when i average another column (one that works correctly) the "average window" (where I input my range) looks like this: =(3;4;5;6;7 but when I try to average the column that doesn't work, the "average window" looks like this: =("3";"4";"5";"6" Can anyone tell me how to fix this? -- waterwayz ------------------------------------------------------------------------ waterwayz's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=25001 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=385269 |

![]() check that the values you are trying to average are formatted as numbers, seeing the list like this ("6"; "7", etc.) leads me to believe Excel is viewing those as text -- mattbloodgood ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mattbloodgood's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=24999 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=385269 |

I entered a series of numbers as text by preceding them with an '. The
format cell, number screen showed them as formated General. I think your misbehaving column of numbers are really text. To fix it place a 1 in an empty cell, copy, then select the numbers in your column, goto edit, paste special and then multiply. This will convert them to numbers. -- Sincerely, Michael Colvin "waterwayz" wrote: the data is listed as "general", which is what the other columns are listed as.
