One method to pull directly to Excel is to use Tushar Mehta's Excel Add-in. This allows filtering and sorting once you have the data in Excel. http://www.tushar-mehta.com/ scroll down to Add-insDirectory Listing. Download the ZIP file and un-zip to your Office\Library folder. Go to ToolsAdd-ins and checkmark Tushar's add-in. TM will show up on your Worksheet Menu Bar. Click it and browse to the folder of songs. Personally, I prefer to use Jim Cone's fine Add-in called "ListFiles" for
this sort of thing.......... It returns the filename, filetype, filesize, date, a total count of the files, and a hyperlink to each file. Alternatively, for the DOS holdovers:
1. Open a command prompt window, and change to the proper drive 2. Type DIR mp3list.txt and press Enter 3. Open mp3list.txt from Excel |
If you have extracted Directory.xla to your Office\Library folder and loaded
it through ToolsAdd-ins you should see TM just to the right of Help on the menu. Re-trace.....perhaps you missed a step. With Excel closed.......... 1. Download the ZIP file from Tushar's site. 2. Extract to Libray 3. Open Excel and go to ToolsAdd-ins. 4. Find "Directory"(no quotes) and checkmark the option box and OK. Gord,
Just sent you a copy in a separate email. No URL in existence yet so... For others interested, the add-in is free upon direct request. Remove XXX from my email address. Send a direct email request to Don.
His email address is in his signature--right under his name in his messages. nick wrote: this is my first time on here and not quite sure how to send you off list my email address "Don Guillett" wrote: Then send me, OFF list your email and I will send. nothing wrong with the other suggestions but John Walkenbach has also done
this specifically for mp3s, adding a twist of using namespace information to extract details like bit rate and song length. http://j-walk.com/ss/excel/tips/tip103.htm Robin Hammond www.enhanceddatasystems.com "nick" wrote in message ... is there a way of generating a list in excel from songs i have saved on my d drive? |
Thanks for posting this Robin.
Didn't know(or forgot) about John's MP3-specific utility.
