A question for all of you Microsoft Office Specialists
I have been considering taking the steps to become an Office Specialist.
I was wondering if some of you could answer a few questions. I understand that getting the certification can only be good. However, I am wondering how marketable I would become once I completed it. Is it feasible that I would be able to get a job somewhere based solely on the certification, and if so, would pay any better than the McDonalds down the street? I don't have a college degree but have been considering an Associates Degree to go along with the certification. If I should pursue a 2-year degree, should I look into a business type degree or keep it computer related? Or is it personal preference? What is the best way to prepare for the exam? I am planning on taking some office classes in the near future to get the ball rolling. Is there another step I should be looking at? Can any of you recommend a good training source? Be it a website or program. And finally, if anyone can think of anything I didnt bring up in here I would love to hear what you say. My ears are open to any advice you may have. Thanks for your time, Steve |
Scan the job ads in your area. Do any of them ask for MOS certification? I doubt that you would get a job based solely on being MOS certified. It might give you a slight edge if you and other candidates were equally qualified, and except for the certification. Before you decide which program to study, or what certifications to pursue, you should decide what kind of job you'd like. Then, talk with people who have that kind of job, and ask them how they got there. Also talk with employers, and ask for their advice. A book like, "What Color is Your Parachute?" might help you get started. http://www.jobhuntersbible.com/intro/wciyp.shtml Steve wrote: I have been considering taking the steps to become an Office Specialist.
