Unhappy Exceeded number of worksheets limit

I think I may have exceeded the number of worksheets that you are allowed in a workbook. I added my 100th worksheet and after saving and closing the document, now when I attempt to open it I get the error message "Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible." The file can be accessed but only cells with numerical values have been recovered and and all sheets have been renamed from 1 through to 99, which is the reason that I believe this corruption occurred due to me adding the 100th sheet. I have tried opening the document in OpenOffice but that also registers a problem with the file and cannot open it.

Has anyone experienced this problem before? And more importantly does anyone have any idea how I can recover my data?

Thanks in advance.
