how do i use the excel symbol toolbar?

Excel 2003 has a Symbol Toolbar that looks like it is designed to allow the
easy insertion of commonly used symbols. The problem is, I can't figure out
how to use it. I have tried dragging the symbols from the toolbar onto a
worksheet, copying them, double clicking them, etc... Nothing works. Does
anyone have any idea how to do this? It's not even in Excel Help.

Select the symbol and click insert button

There is no "Insert" button for this toolbar. I think you are thinking of
the insert, symbol menu. If you right click in the toolbar area and then
select the "symbol" toolbar (from near the bottom of the list) you get a
toolbar with a lot of symbol buttons on it, like bullets, a division sign,
various stylized characters, etc.... My problem is: how to use these buttons.

Thanks!

If you have a "symbol" toolbar in Excel 2003 then some third-party application
or add-in has put it there.

There is no such toolbar native to Excel 2003.

What is the name of the Toolbar? Is it really "symbol"?

Yes, it really is "symbol" I wish I could include a screenshot showing both
the toolbar itself and its presence on the list of included toolbars, but I
can't. Its not a huge deal, since I know how to get the symbols the
conventional way, but it would be a timesaver if it worked.

Excel 2000 - When I hold Alt and type 0183 on the numeric keyboard it inserts
a dot. I also don't have InsertSymbol.

When I tried the Alt 63 it did insert a question mark so I know some numbers
work. Also when I looked at the font Arial and the symbols of that type
(since someone said that is what the formula bar's font is??) the number for
the TM is 8482. The question mark is 63. But when I try Alt/8482 it doesn't
work. Could is be that 4-digit numbers need another key?

Any suggestions?
