Default Smooth out pie

I have a pie chart but the "pieces" of the pie have jagged edges. The help
menu tells me to:
Click the line data series you want to smooth.
On the Format menu, click Selected Data Series, and then click the Patterns
tab.
Select the Smoothed line check box.
............ But there is no Smoothed line check box option available.
Where am I going wrong?

The edges (border) of the pie pieces are not smooth.

This could be due to low screen resolution or zooming in too far.

Try this:
Open MS Paint using the run command.
Draw a circle by selecting the ellipse tool, then holding the control
key down to restrain the resulting figure to a circle.
What does the circle look like?
Try zooming in -- you'll notice that the circle gets pretty ragged quickly.
