My question concerns the effect of networks in Excel.
If I have a spreadsheet that has Links to a second Workbook as soon as I open that other Workbook, my values will update. However, if my colleague opens my Workbook through our office network (simple 3 pc network), makes changes and then saves it (on my system), next time I open it, all the links refer to my second workbook on my system as though on a network, such that even if I open the second workbook, my first workbook doesn't properly recognise that it is open. Normally if I have the 2nd workbook open, I have a nice simple link that refers to the name eg file.xls cell a5 and if I change cell a5, the value would change immediately in the 1st workbook. But if the link says something like C:\Users\DellPG\Desktop\work\client\[files.xls]sheet'!$a$5 even if I have that file open and change the value it doesn't update. I can still update Pivot tables that refer to the 2nd workbook, but the Links will not automatically update on opening, unless I edit all my links. Does anyone else see that as a problem, or is there a workaround that I am missing? I use Excell2007 but tend to save my files as .xls in compatability mode. Many thanks in advance Jesper |

Hi again
I wonder as I've had no response whether Ihave posted this in the right group. Should it be in Networking for example (though I can't see anything for that). Please advise. Thanks in advance Jesper "Jesper Audi" wrote: My question concerns the effect of networks in Excel.
