Default Can't delete object!

I have enclosed a group of cells with a rectangle with a shadow (drawing
object). Attempts to cut or delete this object have failed. I have serched
"help" for a solution and tried a few things, but, no luck. How do I get rid
of it? All other drawing objects, on the sheet, can be manipulated, deleted
and/or cut without problem. It's just this one rectangle and shadow.
Suggestions welcome!

I'd try...

Show the control toolbox toolbar (view|toolbars in xl2003 menus)
Click the Design mode icon
Try deleting the object
Click the design mode icon once more to get back to normal.
