How to determine the ranking positions?
 

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to determine the ranking positions?
There is a list of numbers under column A, I would like to determine the
ranking number starting from max to min.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
For example,
5 Rank (3) 3 should be returned under column B
4 Rank (4) 4 should be returned under column B
6 Rank (2) 2 should be returned under column B
8 Rank (1) 1 should be returned under column B

EXCEL 2007.

1. In cells A2 to A5 enter:-

4
6
8

2. Give the above a Range Name of:-

RangeName

3. In cell B2 type:-

=RANK(A2,RankRange)

Copy this from B 2 to B3:B5

4. Results seen in B2 to B5 a-

4
2
1

Above seems to agree with your expected results.

To give something a Range Name:-

- highlight, for example, cells A 2 to A 5

- click in the Name Box (the cell above the A in the A column)

- type in a Range Name (for example: RangeName)

- hit Return
