Transfering files from Open Office Calc to EXCEL
I have been using Open Office Calc (and Writer) but have changed to Office
2007. How do I transfer my Open Office files so they can be opened by Excel (and Word). My confusion is that when I open an Open Officed file and try 'Save as' I can't see a file type which fits (have tried MicrosoftOffice EXCEL.97/2000/XP(.xls) but it doesn't accept it). You experts out there please help, keep any replies simple I'm only a beginner! -- Thanks |

I assume your last "it" refers to the open office file. But I cannot tell whether the preceding "it" refers to the Open Office program, or to your Excel 2007 program. Nor can I tell what "doesn't accept it" means. Program crash? System freeze? Error message? (If so, what is the message?) Something else? --ron |

My aplolgies for the confusion, put it down to computing ignorance. I have now transferred the OpenOffice files to MS 2007 but when I come to work on them they open in the OpenOffice format (not MS). Still don't know if I'm explaining myself fully. If not again my apologies. -- Thanks "Ron Rosenfeld" wrote: On Sun, 7 Feb 2010 05:51:01 -0800, Ronnie wrote: I can't see a file type which fits (have tried MicrosoftOffice EXCEL.97/2000/XP(.xls) but it doesn't accept it). Have you tried saving them in one of the Excel Formats? --ron |

If not again my apologies. How did you "transfer the OOo files to MS 2007"? I can open an .xlsx (Excel 2007 format) file in OOo 3.1.1, but I cannot save it in the .xlsx format. If you want compatability between OOo and Excel, save your Excel files in Excel 97-2003 format while running Excel. OOo easily handles such files. Bill |

Not sure if my first reply went off OK, so If it did my apologies (seems as though I am forever apologising!) This is what I wrote. To make sure I didn't lose my file/s I copied them from OOo into MS2007. They copied OK so now I want to dump the OO programme. Unfortuately when I try and open the file/s with MS 2007 the file/s open in the OO format (OO tool bar, message bar, commands etc) which means I can't work on them with any of the MS2007 features. -- Thanks "Bill Sharpe" wrote: On 2/8/2010 8:46 AM, Ronnie wrote: Ron My aplolgies for the confusion, put it down to computing ignorance. Conversely, Excel does not recognize OOo files. You can save these files in OOo as an .xls file, which can then be opened in OOo. You cannot just copy files from OOo to Excel 2007 using the OOo extensions, as you indeed have learned. Once you've got all of your OOo files saved in an Excel format you can then open them in Excel 2007. After that you can remove OOo using Add/Remove Programs. Bill |

Followed your advice (instructions) and all is now OK. Many thanks for your patience. -- Thanks "Bill Sharpe" wrote: On 2/9/2010 9:01 AM, Ronnie wrote: Bill Not sure if my first reply went off OK, so If it did my apologies (seems as though I am forever apologising!)
