Autofilter(Top 10...): What does it do? How does it work?
 
Does anyone know what the selection (Top 10...) in the autofilters drop down
menu does?

I tried finding a listing of what it does and how it works in the help menu,
but I could not find anything.

It does wjhat it says, filter the 10 largest numbers (items) or the 10 top
percentage

Peo,

Yah, I guess I should have known. I was trying to use it on a text column
and it would not do anything.

I have an action register and I was wanting to use something that would give
me the top 10 items that have the same action item owner so that I could go
after the biggest action item owners on my list. Thought maybe I could use
this function, but I guess that's only for numbers and not text.

Debra Dalgleish

Instead of an autofilter, you could use a pivot table. It could
summarize the data, and show a count for each item owner. It also has a
top 10 feature, which you could use to display names with the highest
counts.

There are instructions for pivot tables in Excel's Help, and Jon Peltier
has information and links:
