How do I get the tab key to go to the next cell after entering

You need to turn off the Lotus transition option.
XL2003: Tools | Options | Transitions; uncheck the "Transitions Navigation"
box
XL2007: Office | Excel Options | Advanced | Lotus transitions (at bottom);
uncheck "Navigation" box
