Excel file size dramatic increase

Hi

I have an problem with an excel file. The file was quite large about
20000KB. About a month ago the file jumped to just over 56000KB in size
(although I had added some data it was only a few lines). Although it works
it is very slow and prone to sudden crashes.

I have copied the file and removed all but one sheet (effectively stripped
out the data - bit by bit) and it is still over 56000KB.

Is the file corrupt? And if so is there a diagnostic/repair facility?

thanks for any help

Well..., it might happen when the "last used cell" is a far away cell.
I would suggest to press Ctrl+End in order to check the location of that cell.
You may also delete all "empty" rows/columns under the used region.

Hi

Thanks for the tip, what I did was found the offending sheet and copied just
the active part into a new sheet. Then deleted the original and renamed the
sheet with the same name and sure enough the spreadsheet shrank in size so it
is probable I had accidently added something into the bottom part of the
spreadsheet.

Thanks for the advice

Cheers Hager
