I've stumbled across an issue with autofilter. Let's say you autofilter
your data and rows 3 and 4 are hidden by the filter. You then select a range from row 2 to row 5 and paste data in it. In this case, the pasted data is only entered in row 2 and row 5 only. If you do the same thing with PASTE SPECIAL, data is entered into the selected cells from row 2 through row 5, including the hidden cells. Is this a bug? If so, how does it get reported? I've tested it in both Excel 2003 and 2007 and get the same result. Thanks, Barb Reinhardt |

That didn't really answer my question. I tried a google search and didn't
find the answer, that's why I posted it here. I couldn't reproduce the first portion of your scenario.
When I copied 4 cells and pasted in B2:B5 (with B3:B4 hidden), all 4 of the cells got a value--no matter if the row was hidden or not. I used xl2003 to test. I presume 3 and 4 were hidden by using an autofilter. So I guess my
question now is "what is the expected result?" 1) Paste over a range of visible and hidden with autofilter cells puts the value in all cells 2) Paste over a range of visible and hidden with autofilter cells puts the value in only the visible cells. Each time I paste over hidden cells, they get filled, too.
And from the number of posts about how to avoid this behavior, I'd guess #1 is the behavior everyone sees. Barb Reinhardt wrote: I presume 3 and 4 were hidden by using an autofilter.
