How do I open an XLSX format file with my 2003 Excel? It doesn't recognize
the format.

Default XLSX

Download and install the Compatibility Pack so's you can open 2007 files in
2003.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923505

Just note that 2007 files opened in 2003 will have the columns and rows
limits of 2003.
