Data Validation using dependency logic
I would like to be able to limit the available options in a drop down list
dependant on the selection made in the previous column. Specifically I have 4 columns - Person/phone/email/role By selecting the person in column A, i want to either: (1) automatically popluate the remaining columns with the correct phone/email/role or if that is not possible then (2) limit the drop down options based on the selection made in column A (name). Does excel data validation or some other function support this type of dependency logic? thanks |
Data Validation using dependency logic
To autofill, check out the VLOOKUP function for pulling in data based on a
key identifer. To limit choices, check out Debra's article on dynamic validation: http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal02.html -- Best Regards, Luke M *Remember to click "yes" if this post helped you!* "maitri" wrote: I would like to be able to limit the available options in a drop down list dependant on the selection made in the previous column.
