I don't think so.

I don't like putting space characters in cells (it screws up =counta()'s and
other stuff), but if I had to, I'd use a formula like:

=" "

It would be just a little bit easier to notice in the formula bar.

no, unless you put spaces in the cell, or you could put a bottom border on
the cell
