Default Why can't I get more than 255 characters in one cell in Excel 07?

The Excel specifications state that you can have up to 32,767 characters in a
cell within Excel 2007. When I enter more than 255 characters (which I can
do) and then move down to the next cell, the cell only shows the "#########"
characters. Why can't I still see the text in its proper form? This is
really an unacceptable way to present the information. Thanks for any tips
that you can provide.
