Can I create my own date showing day of week plus date?

I would like to enter the date, such as 10/04/09, and have it show up in the
cell as:
Sun 10/04/09

Is this possible? Right now all I see for formatting the date showing the
day of the week shows: Sunday, October 4, 2009 (it's spelling out too much
for me...I want everything abbreviated).

I would like only the first 3 characters for the day of the week and then
the date using numbers as xx/xx/xx.

Thank you.

Right click the cell/rangeFormat CellsSelect Category as 'Custom'. Within
the text box labeled 'Type:' enter the below

ddd mm/dd/yyyy

If this post helps click Yes

Use the custom format of ddd m/dd/yy.

Enter the date as usual: 10/4/2009 and it will display as Sun 10/04/09.
