How do I make cell references return to normal?

Re Excel 97 ---

I copied some figures, one at a time, from a website and pasted them into a
spreadsheet.

Now I discover that the cells, in which those numbers were pasted, are no
longer referenced in the normal way, e.g., G8.

Instead, for instance, G8 is referenced as Table_5. And, I can't get
"Table_5" back to being "G8."

There are many similar instances (cells referenced by some Table_#) in the
spreadsheet. How do I get the cell references to return to normal?

When you say referenced, do you mean that in the address box now appears
Table_#?

Click on Insert, Name, Define, select the relevant Table name, and delete it
