On your menu bar you will find

Data - Validation

This allows you to validate the data enetered in a cell and dispay an error
/ alert message if it does not meet certain standards.

how do i add an error message if someone enters wrong data

Thanks Jim,

Done that but one problem.... I want the error message to come up if it does
not = 100. This is generated from two other cells (a formula). ie 30 + 60
do not = 100 so i want the error to come up then. How can i make this work?
I know i could just higlight the cell in conditional formatting but i need it
to be more obvious

Thanks

Use Custom data validation... This checks Cells B2:C2 to ensure that they
equal 100

=NOT(AND(COUNT($B2:$C2)1, SUM($B2:$C2)<100))

The count is there to only validate if both cells are filled in.
