why is more than one cell selected with a single click?

Using Excel 2007, when I click on a single cell the program highlights more
than that single cell. the issue is not consistent nor does it repeat from
one worksheet to another.

hi
you (or someone) may have inadvertently pressed the F8 key. this puts xl in
extented selection mode. tap the F8 key and see if the problem goes away.
extended selection is boolean. tap F8 once to turn on, again to turn off.

Assuming 2007 version try setting the Zoom level a few points higher or
lower.

Especially if in page layout view.
