Default Why can't I save Excel 7 documents to Excel 3?

Since purchasing a new computer some months ago, some Excel downloads appear
in Excel version 7 which I have not installed on my computer. My preferred
version of Excel is version 3 which I HAVE installed on my computer. Why am
I not able to save the documents which download into version 7 to version 3
where I can edit and send on by e-mail if I need to do?
