Opens multiple versions of workbook

When I open a specific workbook in Excel, it automatically opens two
identical versions of the workbook. Closing one closes both of them. Making
and saving changes to one saves the changes to both. It is truly only one
document opened in two versions. Only happens to one document, not all
documents. The file extension once opened looks like "name.xls:1" and
"name.xls:2". Any help on how to stop Excel from opening two versions is
very appreciated!

You've got two windows open in the same workbook.
Close one window (not the top right hand red X which closes the whole file,
but the other X just below it).
Then save before closing, then reopen the file.
