How to locate the value?
 

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to locate the value?

There is a table as shown below starting from cell A1

A 4 B 2 C 9 [CELL F1]
V 8 K 0 S 3
J 99 O 8 W 7 [CELL F3]

The given value is S in cell K1
I would like to locate the value on the left hand side of S, which is 3, and
return in cell K2.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think you meant on the right side...

As long as "S" is unique:

=SUMIF(A1:E3,"s",B1:F3)
