How do I make formulas that can add how many times a name has been
 

I have a spreadsheet that I need to get a formula that will allow me to add
up the amount of times each idividual name has been used. the way I have it
set up looks like this.
1/column A/columnB/columnC/columnD/columnE/columnF
2/ ma2 john
ma2 wall
masa hill
3/ ma2 john
ma2 wall
4/ ma2 john
masa luke
cell reange goes all the waqy to 79
79/

I need to know how to find out how many times a name was used. for example:
total number of times that ma2 john was on the list from Cell E2:E79
Pleas help
