remove Format painter icon on speardsheet

Whenever I insert a new line I get an format painter icon on the next cell
down so I can format. With the work I'm doing this icon covers over a 3
chracter code that I need to read to decide whether I need to insert another
line. I cannot start from the bottom and move up.
How do I shut this assistant off?

Thanks

Hi Richard.

In 2007, Press the Button, select Options at the bottom.
Select Advanced. In the Cut, Copy, and Paste section uncheck SHOW PASTE
OPTIONS. If that doesn't do it try unchecking the others.

And in other versions of Excel:

ToolsOptionsEdit tab

Uncheck one or both of these:

Show Paste Options buttons
Show Insert Options buttons

OK out
