consolidating data - 3d formula changes from what I type in
 

when I put in formula in consolidation sheet --- =sum(sheet1:sheet31!b32) and
hit enter -- "#name### shows up in cell and formula bar shows -
=SUM(SHEET1:'sheet1:[sheet31]SHEET31'!B32)

You need to be more accurate when you are posting examples of your problems.
"#name###
is not a standard error message in Excel. However,
#NAME?
is -- is this the error you are receiving?

If so, then either Sheet1 or Sheet31 does not exist in your workbook.
Based on what showed in the formula bar, it's sheet31 that's the problem.
