Excel 2002: Why cells become #VALUE! when updating link file?

Hi,

I have a file that gets data from the other files

When I open that file and click updating link or not clicking the same ,
all the link cells becomes #VALUE!,

May I know what does this means and how to overcome this ?

For the cells to be updated on real time basis when the data of the other
files are updated What must I do ?

Thanks

Low

I've never seen this happen.

But there have been a few posts that describe this problem. One solution is to
select all the cells in all the worksheets and change the = sign to an = sign.

Excel will reevaluate all the formulas and should retrieve the correct value.

And the only way for the updates to be made in real time is to have both
workbooks open in the same instance of excel (a single user only!).

If different people have the files open, then they have to save their changes
and you have to refresh the links.

If you share the workbooks, then you can set an interval when your workbook
should go out and refresh those links--but that still depends on the other users
saving their files.
