how to stop fractions in a columm automatically changing to dates
 
Just trying to enter 5/5 into a cell. But automatically changes to 5-may.
How do I sto that?

Either pre-format the cell as TEXT or, precede the entry with an apostrophe
like this '5/5.

Try entering an inverted comma before the fraction.

Or did you want Excel to evaluate the fraction? if so place an equals sign
first

=5/5

Doesn't that display as 39938/1 rather than 5/5 ?
Formatting as d/m would display as 5/5, but of course it would still be a
date.

5/5 as 1/1..
