Partial cell protection?

I'm using Excel 2003 anbd have set up a pretty basic worksheet for colleagues
to complete as far as an call centre rota is concerned.

Different cells are coloured differently and cell borders vary - is it
possible to partially protect the worksheet, so that colours and borders
CAN'T be changed, but cells can still be written into, and information from
one cell (eg a name) can be copied into other cells without changing the
colour / border format of the destination cells??

As always, thank you in anticipation.

Partial cell protection?

Unlock the cell
Format|Cells|Protection tab

But prtect the worksheet.

The value should be able to be changed. The formatting should not be able to be
changed manually.

The bad news is that the format can be changed by a simple copy|paste.

You may have to train your users to use edit|Paste special|Values
