MS Word and MS Excel won't open from the START menu.

MS Word and MS Excel won't load from the START menu, but they wil open on the
desktop shortcut.

Other programs will load from the START menu, but not those MS Word and MS
Excel programs.

Double-clicking on a MS Word or MS Excel file opens fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think the best way is to replace the shortcut in the Start button. I would
open a window explorer. I usually right click the start button and select
Explore.

Then search on your c: drive for word (or excel). You should find the
word.exe along with a number of shortcuts. The shortcut under the desk top
is correct. You need to copy this shortcut to the All User folder. The
Start button get you do the location

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\microsoft Word

You computer installation might be a little different.

Open Word, click Help, Detect and Repair to fix those shortcut entries.
