How can I get the commands in excel which are gray, active again?

Some of the commands in excel, like for example on the Data menu, under group
and ungroup are gray shaded: "Group, "Ungroup" and I want to make it active
so I can use them on a spreadsheet. If anyone can help I would appreciate it

The sheet could be protected. Unprotect it.

You could have more than one sheet selected. Uungroup the sheets.

The workbook could be shared. Unshare it.
