Default Format Painter Not working

When I try applying format painter in another cells in excel 2007, formating
doesn't happen.

Please help.

What type of formatting are you painting?

If Conditional Formatting you may have to look at absolute and relative
references in your rules.

Gord, a simple excel cell format width.

Cells don't have a width.

Only columns have a width.

You must select entire column, click painter then select another entire
column.

wrong choice of word "cell" .. its column.

Yup and Yup!!

Any ideas ....
Its happening pretty much all the computers I tried.

Its Excel 2007 (12.0.6504.5001) SP2 MSO (12.0.6425.1000).
