Default Pivot table drop downs stop working

When a pivot table is updated or created in Excel 2007 the pivot table will
stop working when opened by Excel 2003. Specifically, the drop downs in the
pivot table appear but do not function at all. We have tried creating the
pivot table using Excel 2003 and it still gives us the same problem. The only
workaround we have at the moment is to have the data source open when
updating. The problem with this is our data source is now Access and it
breaks the pivot table every time.

Is there a way to update a pivot table in Excel 2007 using Access as the
data source without breaking the drop downs in the pivot when opening the
file in Excel 2003? Thanks!
