numbering in excel

I need to renumber column A in an excel workbook that has 127,000 rows right
now the numbering starts at 10, but I need it to start at 1, I know about
dragging the numbers to renumber it, but it takes a very long time to
renumber 127,000 rows, is there a simple way.

If it makes a difference I am on a Mac.

It should be fairly easy for you to select all of the used cells in column A,
and this solution is based on that.

Pick any empty cell and enter a 9 in it. Use Edit -- Copy to put it onto
the clipboard.
Select all used cells in column A that you want to renumber.
Choose Edit -- Paste Special and choose the "Subtract" option.
All values will be reduced by 9.

Might want to try it on a copy of the workbook or worksheet first to make
sure you get the process right.
