Data Entry In Column 1 with Drop-Down List

I have a table being used to enter class-specific data for students. The
first column /field is a drop-down list of the different classes linked to a
dynamic range elsewhere.

Normally, typing anything in the new row "adds" a data record and drop-downs
appear as desired, but not in this case with the drop-down in the first
column.

I know how to work around this manually (enter something in one of the
typed-entry fields), but this is for use by a client and needs to be as
automated as possible. Besides, all the other entries are based on that
first selection from the drop-down list.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ed

If you are using XL2003, select a cell in your Table and then
DataListCreate, after you have applied DV to the cells in column A.
As you create new lines, DV will automatically be applied to the new rows.

If you are using XL2007, use InsertTable

Thanks for the information Govier. I already have the table defined with the
first record (row) entered as an example for the user. What I need is a way
to add addition records with the drop-down list being used as data validation
in the first field (column) of each record.

Hi Ed
That is exactly what happens, if the DV has been set before the List is
created.

Yes, I got it to work after I set the DV for all the cells in the field below
the Field Header cell. I had only set the first row, which then depends on
auto expansion of the table to "add" the DV dynamically as each row is added.
Thanks,
Ed
