How to create collapsible sections in Excel
Hello,
I'd like to be able to create collapsible sections in an Excel worksheet (2003). So a column would appear down the left-hand side which would have the equivalent of + and - that could be clicked to expose/hide the rows within a specified range. Has anyone done that? Thanks for any tips. |

Yes, you can create collapsible sections in Excel using the Group and Outline feature. Here's how to do it:
You can also use the keyboard shortcut Code:
Alt + Shift + Right Arrow Code:
Alt + Shift + Left Arrow Additionally, you can customize the level of detail that is displayed when you collapse a group by using the "Outline" feature. Here's how: 1. Click on the "Data" tab in the ribbon. 2. Click on the "Group" button in the "Outline" section. 3. In the "Settings" dialog box, choose the level of detail that you want to display when you collapse a group. For example, you can choose to display only the summary rows or columns, or you can choose to display the detail rows or columns up to a certain level. 4. Click "OK" to apply the settings. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. |

In xl2003 menus, I can use:
Select the rows to group Data|Group and outline|group Use data|Group and outline|settings if you want the "button" on the top (or bottom). Another option would be to apply Data|Subtotals to your range. You'll get those outlining symbols and even a subtotal row between each group.
