Formula based on format of cell

How do I create a formula based on the format of a cell? For example, I want
to add up all values of the cells that are red. Can I do this? How?

You can't do this with a formula. It would have to be VBA.

The first link I tried but Excel said it was an incorret name. The second
link was way to hard to understand. I need something set out simply and
clearly.

If Excel is telling you that you have an incorrect name, you have presumably
not correctly defined the ColorIndex UDF.

If you are struggling to understand the links I gave you, then I guess
you'll struggle with http://www.ozgrid.com/VBA/Sum.htm too.
As I said, "You can't do this with a formula.". If you can't cope with the
VBA you can't do it.
