Identify Duplicates in a List
I have a spreadsheet will approximately 4,000 names, along with addresses,
and various other information. I need to identify duplication in the First Name, Last Name fields only. Advanced Filter only identifies duplication if the entire record is identical. How can I identify (and not delete) duplicates for the First and Last Name fields only? |
Identify Duplicates in a List
A couple of 'helper' columns could do the trick for you. Assuming that first
name is in A and last name is in B, and that columns V and W are available to use as helper columns. Also assuming your list goes from row 2 to 4002, then In V2 put the formula = A2 & B2 which will give you the first and last name joined as "FirstLast" Fill that formula down for all rows involved. Then in W2 put this formula =IF(COUNTIF($V$2:$V$4002,W2)1,"Duplicated","") Again, fill the formula down for all rows used. Then you can filter on the word "Duplicated" in column W. Would even help more if you sort all of your data by column V if possible to get duplicate names on adjacent rows so you can work with them easier, or not. Hope this helps some "BStacy" wrote: I have a spreadsheet will approximately 4,000 names, along with addresses, and various other information.
