Linking MS Project Data into Excel Worksheet
 

Would like to set up a worksheet that is linked to an MS Project project.
The intent is to pull certain fields from the project and use Excel to
analyze the data and display a stoplight display based upon the results of
the analysis. I can understand how to do the analysis and displaying the
results, but I can't figure out how to link the data input to an MS Project
2003 project plan, so that when I make changes to the MS Project project, it
automatically modifies the spreadsheet the next time I open up the
spreadsheet.
I haven't been able to find anything that tells me if this is possible or
not. Does anyone have a solution?

Linking MS Project Data into Excel Worksheet
 

It is possible! For the direction you want the data to flow, select the
cells/rows you want linked from Project, and copy them.

Now, in Excel, do a paste special, select "Paste Link" and As "Text".

Note that the reverse is possible too (Excel feeds into Project), using the
same technique of copy from Excel, paste special - Paste Link: Text.

I tried the "Paste Link" as text function and it works fine until I save the
worksheet and then open it up again. Then every cell has the "NAME" error in
it. I tried putting the MS Project file in the same folder, I tried keeping
the MS Project file open as I opened Excel. I still get the same error.
