Default Auto Correct ?

I enter 1/1 and get 1/1/2005, I can manually add a space but this is
imported data so it comes in as 1/1, no matter how I format the cell I still
end up with 1/1/2005. I have turned off all auto complete and auto correction
selections. I also get the same results no matter what cell I enter 1/1.

Hi Marco
Format the cell as Text to get it to appear as 1/1.
But it may 'cause you some grief if you want to do any calculations.
Maybe if you gave us some idea on what you were trying to achieve, we could
provide a better solution.

I am querying data and retrieving cells that contain 1/1, 3/1, etc, and
Excel is changing these to dates and adding the /2005 at the end. I have
tried changing the format of these cells before during and after the Query
refresh to text and other formats, and nothing keeps the change from
ocurring. I did find a solution and that was to change the format to DATE,
and then 1/14 as the format. Seems to resolve the issue for this situation,
but I would love to know where Excel gets the idea I want these cells
automatically changed ??

And are these entries, 1/1, 3/1, etc, *supposed to be* dates? If not, if you
are importing from a text file (extension .txt), the Text Import Wizard will
allow you to specify this column(s) as text.

If they ARE supposed to be dates, a date MUST include a year. Since one isn't
specified, Excel assumes it is the current year. The point is to speed up data
entry when typing dates at the keyboard -- eliminating the need for the last
3-5 characters for current year dates.

I believe you can find information in Help about how Excel interprets keyboard
entries that "look like" dates.
