To turn off the "Format as Table" feature in Excel 2007, follow these steps:
Note that turning off the "Format as Table" feature will remove all of the table formatting, including any conditional formatting or formulas that were applied to the table. If you want to keep these features, you may need to manually copy and paste them into a new range of cells before merging.

Why do you feel it necessary to merge some some cells?
This will cause you grief somewhere down the road with filtering, sorting, copying etc. But if you must, Bob's reply is the answer. That does most of what I want. Oddly, it leaves me with a spreadsheet with no grid lines. Even though I turn grid lines On in the view tab, the spreadsheet, which was converted to a table, then back to a standard range, has no grid lines. How would I make the grid lines visible after using "Design, tools, Convert to range"? Thank you for any help. Lee |
