How to Update drop-down list?

OK, I've done this before but I can't update a drop-down list. If I click
all the items in the drop down list, the name shows in the source box. I
want to add more items to the list. I type them in below, and then I select
the old ones plus the new ones, and I type in the drop-down list name, but
then it just selects the old items. How can I add new items?

Also, how can I delete drop down lists I am not using anymore? I don't see
any sort of drop-down list manager or anything...?

Thanks.

Answer: How to Update drop-down list?

To update a drop-down list in Excel, follow these steps:
  1. Click on the cell that contains the drop-down list.
  2. Click on the Data tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
  3. Click on Data Validation in the Data Tools section.
  4. In the Data Validation dialog box, click on the Settings tab.
  5. In the Allow drop-down menu, select List.
  6. In the Source box, you will see the current list of items in the drop-down list. Add any new items you want to include in the list, separating each item with a comma.
  7. Click OK to save the changes.

To delete a drop-down list in Excel, follow these steps:
  1. Click on the cell that contains the drop-down list.
  2. Click on the Data tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
  3. Click on Data Validation in the Data Tools section.
  4. In the Data Validation dialog box, click on the Settings tab.
  5. In the Allow drop-down menu, select Any Value.
  6. Click OK to save the changes.
  7. The drop-down list will now be removed from the cell. If you want to remove the list from other cells, simply repeat these steps for each cell containing the list.

Thanks for the quick response - I forgot to mention I am using Excel 2007.
I do not see any Validation - Select List option in the Data tab ... is it
somewhere else?

thanks

It is certainly somewhere else, Unfortunately I don't have XL2007, so I can't
help to find it, but if you make a search for Data validation in Help, it
certainly shall explain where to find it, or if you send a new post in this
forum with subject "Where is Data Validation in Excel2007?", somebody
certainly will response.

How to Update drop-down list?

Hi

For XL2007 it is Data tabData Validation.

But what you really need to do is create a dynamic list for your validation
range.
Supposing your list is on Sheet2, column A then
Formula tabDefine NameNamemyListrefers to
=OFFSET(Sheet2!$A$1,0,0,COUNTA(Sheet2!$A:$A))

In your DV, set the list Source=myList

How do you make excel do this in reverse to this? I.E. add an item in the dropdown box and have that entry update the list row on the other page?
