Data Validation - List - with "Add Items..."
Hi everyone,
Is there a way to do Data Validation as List, and allow the user to "Add Items.." to the list if they need to? I found this feature is available in other program, but not excel? Is there a workaround? Thank you, Neon520 |
Data Validation - List - with "Add Items..."
Hi Neon
In Excel 2003 go to DataValidationError Alert and uncheck 'Show error alert after invalid data is entered'. This should allow users to enter anything they want as well as choosing from the list. Data Validation - List - with "Add Items..."
Hi PJ,
Thanks for the response. What I essentially want is to allow the user to enter ANYTHING they want without the boundary of the List. The list is just there to GUIDE the user for a start. They may follow the list if it's APPLICABLE, but if there's something the list doesn't have, then the USERs are free to add more to it. I'm not talking about the Error Message. Sorry that I didn't make this clear in the first place. Thanks, Neon520 "PJ" wrote: Hi Neon In Excel 2003 go to DataValidationError Alert and uncheck 'Show error alert after invalid data is entered'. Hi Neon
In fact turning off the Error Alert message lets you do exactly what you describe. Give it a try! "Neon520" wrote: Hi PJ, Thanks for the response. To allow entry of an item that is not on the list, turn off error alert.
To permanently add items you need VBA Debra Dalgleish has a sample workbook with the code available. http://www.contextures.on.ca/excelfiles.html#DV0012 Gord Dibben MS Excel MVP On Mon, 9 Mar 2009 09:46:01 -0700, Neon520 wrote: Hi everyone, Is there a way to do Data Validation as List, and allow the user to "Add Items.." to the list if they need to?
