how to i create a graph in excel from a table with 1 set of dependent
variables and 1 set of independent variable (ie, x axis and y axis)

Go to Insert-Chart. Select the chart you want. On next screen, select the
series tab, and in the appropriate boxes, select the cells containing your X
and Y data, respectively. Format chart as desired.

If you set up the data properly, Excel will select the X and Y values. Put
the X values in a column, and the Y values in the adjacent column to the
right. Leave a blank cell above the column of X values, and put a label
above the column of Y values. Now run the chart wizard. You probably want an
XY chart in the first step, then in the second step, the data will have been
allocated to X and Y.
