Default I want Paste Special (not Paste Link)

I work for a company that has Excel 2007, but frequently receive 2003 files.
For some, when they copy from the 2003 file in email and Paste Special to
blank 2007 worksheet, all the Paste Special options are displayed. For
others, when they go to copy and Paste Special, the new worksheet sees the
copied data as an object (showing only Paste/Paste Link). I know this is
probably due to both 2003 and 2007 workbooks being open, but I don't
understand why some are able to get all of the Paste Special options when
others can't. They're the same type of files and they all have Excel 2007.
How can I make it so they're all able to get all the Paste Special options?

Make sure that both workbooks are open in the same instance of excel. If you
try to copy|paste between two instances of excel, you'll get that "weird"
dialog.

One way to fix this is

This is probably because Excel is opening all workbooks in separate
instances...

Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar

1) StartRun "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)OK.
2) StartRun "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)OK.

See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe (most likely C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office12)

In that case StartRun "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12\excel.exe" /regserver(quotes
required)OK
