Tools / Options not working.

I have built a very complex spreadsheet and was going to hide the tabs,
toolbars, etc. using "Tools / Options & various selections"........ but
nothing happens when I have the spreadsheet open. With a new 'blank' sheet,
the "Tools / Options" works. Need some ideas. Using Excel 97 SR-1..........
